DDA has announced its Budget for 2008-09 and approved revised estimates for 2007-08. Expenditure for 2008-09 has been projected at Rs 3,622.6 crore as compared to Rs 2,309.08 crore in the revised estimates for 2007-08.

Under the new Budget, areas like Rohini, Dwarka, Narela, Dheerpur, Jasola and Bakkarwala will see an increase in the expenditure on development work like housing for economically weaker sections (EWS) and village redevelopment. Under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, 42,380 EWS houses have been planned so far. It is expected that construction of approximately 8,690 EWS houses will commence by March 2008.

In almost five decades, DDA has provided more than a million houses to Delhiites, housing about half its population. DDA has been constructing as well as facilitating the construction of some 10.80 lakh dwelling units in Delhi, according to the requirements and purchasing capacity of people, especially those from the lowest strata of society. In its existing housing colonies - Sarita Vihar, Saket, Mayur Vihar, Janakpuri, Ashok Vihar - the authority has provided for neighbourhood park, milk booth, schools, daily needs, shopping complex, transport and communication links.

In addition to construction activities, DDA also acquires land for planned activities, by disposing of land and properties for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional uses in terms of real estate development. Instead of just creating dwelling units, the focus of DDA has been on providing facilities, around all DDA residential colonies, that takes into account, all aspects of city life.

To achieve that, some 449 convenient shopping centres, 138 local shopping centres, 642 commercial spaces, 23 industrial estates and three sub-cities have been created with ample scope for recreational needs.

Future and ongoing plans include a pilot project on public-private participation at Tehkhand in South Delhi -- envisaging construction of 750 higher income group flats and 3,000 units under EWS scheme. The project would pave the way for public-private participating in such similar ventures across the Capital.
